Autumn dress progress

This is the Autumn dress so far. I've cut out the sleeves too, but haven't assembled.

In the real Autumn Princess dress, you can see no darts or princess seams.

I'm trying to decide whether the gathering at the sides that naturally occurred is ok.... or if I should just cave in and do darts.

hmmm...

p.s. This is what my room looks like right now! You can see my assembled quilt top, a half assembled underbust corset, a pair of jeans half re-fashioned into a skirt, my books and patterns, pairs of fingerless gloves not yet assembled, and half of a Medival dress made from a sheet. The results? A very messy looking room.

Kind of reflects my mood at the moment. Lots of momentum, but scattered in many directions.

  1. Ok, I am definitely jealous of your sewing skills! :) You are doing a great job!

I saw where you mentioned you need to work on sewing zippers. A super help is to use a gluestick to put them in place before sewing them in. Here is a link to a tutorial: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=87

Also, if you have a problem with your fabric bulging at the end of the zipper (when using a lighter fabric), use the gluestick method and some iron-on interfacing. It helped immensely when my friend and I were sewing the bridesmaids' skirts for my wedding. :)

I'm assuming you are homeschooled-- I'm a HS grad with 5 little siblings. :)

    God bless,
